06/19/12 Winona Lake, Meredith
Conditions: partly sunny, lt breeze, 80s
Equipment: fly rod w sinking line and long leader for trolling, Ultralight rod, downrigger rod
Baits: spinners, streamers, spoons
A nice afternoon on this multi-species lake. Note: Boat launch is tight. No big boats here. Rainbow trout, smallmouth bass and white perch made for good entertainment. Lots of fish lazily taking bugs at the surface. Mepps worked well 10’ down. Dragging sinking fly-line and AJ’s egg-sucking leech (a Winona-specific fly) on a long leader, got some early attention too. The lake is practically in a canyon, bordered by steep slopes. That means big drop-offs and good structure for trout along some edges… although we also found fish suspended out over the deepest spots.
