Saltmarsh Pond, in Gilford is a designated trout pond by NH Fish & Game

9/5/13: Saltmarsh Pond, Gilford
Conditions: sunny, breezy, 70
Equipment: flyrod
Baits: scuds, wet flies

This magnificent trout pond sits high on hill in Gilford. Where it’s so close to the studios of 93.3 The Wolf, I was able to hit it briefly at lunch break. Where there were no visible rises, I tried sinking some flies along the shoreline. Before the season is done, I’m coming back to this water for a serious session, which most likely will include visiting later for the evening hatch.

9/1/13: Merrimack River, Hooksett
Conditions: sun & clouds, 80s
Equipment: flyrod
Baits: dry flies, weighted wooly bugger

Put the boat in at Hooksett Village for a lazy afternoon on the river. The missus did crossword puzzles and I played with the smallmouth bass that haunt the river’s edge. It was even hot enough for a swim afterwards. Man, I’m going to miss summer…
